Binance Smart Chain uses the BEP20 protocol. Depending on what cryptocurrency you want in your wallet on BSC via Metamask, you'll have a few different methods of getting it there.
You'll find many of your favorite cryptocurrencies in their wrapped equivalents on the Binance Smart Chain. Among the most popular:
USDT
BTC
ETH
BNB
BUSD
To receive tokens like these and others, make sure you send the BEP20 version to your BSC wallet address.
One of the preferred methods to get something like BEP20 BTC, USDT, ETH, etc. into your BSC wallet is via the Binance exchange (or other CEXes that support BSC).
Through exchanges like Binance, you can simply deposit BTC (or USDT, etc.) and then withdraw it from Binance and select "BEP20" when you input your withdrawal address:
